Trans Asiatic GIS Society/TAGS

Trans Asiatic GIS Society is pleased to announce its conference on GIS titled “b-GIS@Asia” from 17th to 19th of December 2007 at Technopark, Trivandrum, India. b-GIS@Asia is about discovering how GIS empowers organizations and demonstrating the role of GIS in organizational business with the intention of urging entrepreneurs, and/or organizations, to invest in GIS for profit or operational performance. Towards this end, b-GIS@Asia provides a platform for GIS professionals, academicians, private enterprises, government, and NGOs to come together and orchestrate their combined strengths to expose the myths and misconceptions behind the technology and bring GIS closer to people by focusing on areas of organizational business that are key to organizational functioning.

b-GIS@Asia will consist of technical sessions, discussion, and training. Details of each are show below:

Who should attend
The widely accepted fact is that 80% of all business data has a spatial component. Hence, few, if any, organisations and individuals do not deal with spatial data assets. b-GIS@Asia discusses topics intimate to organisations in the presence of professionals, promising attendees a good opportunity to relate GIS to an organisation’s business. The basic skill required, if looking for any form of value addition in organisations. Recommended attendees include line managers, decision-makers and technical hands from different sectors including banking, insurance, government, police, security related organizations, IT business firms, local government (municipal corporations, municipalities, panchayats, etc.), telecommunications, education, university and planning departments.

b-GIS@Asia brings together professionals, academicians, government and the business to a common platform. Attendees can make use of this gathering to learn about software, solutions, best-practices, different ways of utilizing GIS with business processes to improve efficiency, and discuss with peers on issues of common interest not explicitly covered by the conference themes. Furthermore, the venue “Meet the Professional” offers an opportunity for businesses to engage in face-to-face dialogue with professionals and chances are that you will always find someone who can relate to your organization’s area of operations, be it academic, NGO, government, or business.
