The “Academia Historica Digital Archives Search System” established by the Academia Historica and National Taiwan University’s Research Center for Digital Humanities was officially opened on November 11, 2010. The databank includes ten full archives, more than 400,000 pieces of catalogue information and more than 500,000 digital files : “ President Chiang Kai-shek Cultural relics,” President Lee Teng-hui cultural relics,”Vice-president Chen Cheng cultural relics,” “Vice-president Xie Dong-min cultural relics, “Nationalist Government Archives, “Resources Committee Archives,” Taiwan Provincial Government Department of Land Administration Archives,” “Ministry of Foreign Affairs Archives, “Wang Zhao-ming Historica Materials.
Former director of Academia Historica Lin Man-hong said the system greatly increases the efficiency of academic resource collecting, making and historical administrative research easier.
National Taiwan University President Lee Si-chen said that following the widespread promotion of digitization begun in 1996,information collecting work that once took one month can now be done in a few seconds through the “Academia Historica Digital Archives Search System. President Lee hopes that the system can be widely used so that people from all walks of life can, from their own perceptive, leave behind more precious information for national history.
Then, director of NTU’s Research Center for Digital Humanities, Xiang Jie, said gave a brief introduction to the special features of the Academia Historica Digital Archives Search System. The system user oriented, and through post classification and different level browsing and other functions the search result outline and information distribution can be quickly grasped, with search condition set and search history recorded, allowing the user to save completed conditions for later use.
Also, to make using search results easier the user can carry out information catalog transfer and thee is also a report error feedback mechanism aimed to make the databank as complete and correct as possible. At the end of the introductory meeting history experts were invited to demonstrate the use of the system, giving a practical demonstration of how the system is used.
