Yang Yun-ping (楊雲萍, 1906-2000), who had a real name “Yang Yo-lian” (楊友濂), was one of the founders of the “Everyone” (《人人》雜誌), the first vernacular literary magazine in Taiwan. He was mentored by Kawabata Yasunari (川端 康成) and Kan Kikuchi (菊池 寛) when studied at the Institute of Japanese Culture in Japan, and that made great impact on his creative style. Yang began to dedicate himself to researches on Taiwan history and culture after returning to Taiwan, and got a teaching job at Department of History, National Taiwan University in 1947.
The Taiwan Malacofauna Database currently includes 277 families and 3,713 species of mollusks in Taiwan. In order to connect with the international community, we are also in the process of developing a worldwide malacofauna database and an English interface for our website, hoping to integrate our resources with those from the rest of the world.
The main purpose of this project is to gather, digitize and archive all categories of maps of mainland China and Taiwan and remote sensing imagery data. By applying GIS technology to our data, we are able to provide objective and straightforward geographical information on societal and cultural changes in contemporary mainland Chinese and Taiwan, as well as changes in the natural environment, terrain and landform in this region.
