The Red-crowned Crane, an exhibition of over 80 striking photographs featuring dramatic images of red-crowned cranes, opened Friday, May 14, 2010, at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung. On view along the corridor on the second floor of the Global Environment Hall through August 31, the exhibition brings the work of the renowned wildlife photographer, Fong Ying-ke, whose artistry showcases the grace of red-crowned cranes in majestic flight or in arresting dance.
The National Palace Museum crosses the boundaries that separate cities boundaries to present a treasure chest of Chinese art at the Taiwan Pavilion in this year's Shanghai World Expo. Using a digital showcase of a sky lantern screen, the National Palace Museum is presenting a film on cultural innovation entitled "Treasures of Chinese Art." By introducing the treasures of Chinese art and culture to people from around the world, and by sharing in a new pulse of life, the Taiwan Pavilion at the World Expo has become like the legendary pearl that shines at night.
The Three Kingdoms era can fairly be said to have been one of the most dramatic periods in Chinese history. The Battle of the Red Cliff, 1,800 years ago, marked the commencement of a new era, in which China was divided into three kingdoms. Stories of the Three Kingdoms are still told today, not only because this was a time of great heroism, but also because of the vivid depictions of events from this time in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, thanks to which the personality and deeds of the great figures of the period have continued to influence and inspire people right down to our own time.
