The name of the genus Adenophora, meaning gland-bearing, was derived from Greek. It refers to the distinctive tubular nectary disk that surrounds the base of the style. Adenophora, comprising more than 50 species, is confined to Eurasia, with a center of diversity in eastern Asia.
The genus Lysimachia comprises about 180 species mainly in temperate and subtropical regions of the northern Hemisphere. A number of them are medicinal herbs. Eleven species are known from Taiwan, of which four are endemic.
Previous visitors to the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica will not quickly forget famous attractions such as the black pottery from Long Shan, cooking vessels and three-legged caldrons from the ruins of Yin, bronze inscriptions from the Chou dynasty, bamboo scripts of the Han dynasty, rubbings of the Shiu dynasty and Tang dynasty, rare books of Sung dynasty and Yuan dynasty, or the incredible oracle bone inscriptions of Southwestern China’s ethnic peoples. But it is often not known that these precious artifacts comprise only a very small portion of what the Institute of History and Philology collects. The visitor will regret not seeing the Grand Secretariat Archives, the Archaeological data from the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology, or the folk literature of Taiwan. There is much to see besides the famous attractions.
In order to showcase the cultural heritage and natural resources of Taiwan to the world as well as to complement the existing Chinese portal (http://digitalarchives.tw/) which demonstrates TELDAP's accomplishments, we have created a new “Digital Taiwan – Culture & Nature” English portal. It provides the global community with an in-depth and convenient way to appreciate Taiwan's culture and digitization achievements. As the contents of archives increase, so will the functions of the portal expand to meet the public's expectations. The portal will make Taiwan's academic and digital archive activities more visible to the world community.
