 In ancient China, people sharpened the bottom of a piece of wood, monster face on it, and placed it on the door for protection. In the Han Dynasty, people believed this thin little board called "wooden talisman" had magic power that could scare away ghosts, and bring peace to the family. Gradually, the "wooden talismans" have been replaced by two pieces of papers with "door gods" on them. For thousands of years, they guard on the door of each family.
 Before one century B.C., Han soldiers defeated Xiongnu, and took over a place called "Edsen-gol" in Inner Mongolia. To gain control of the new territory, some Han people went and lived there. This is how the "wooden talismans" passed onto the new land. The "wooden talismans" and the "wooden slips" were buried for thousands years. Luckily, they were discovered in 1930 by a Swedish scholar, Mr. Bergmann. Thanks to archaeologists from the Institute of History and Philology of Academia Sinica, the wooden slips and "wooden talismans" have been re-examined by infrared rays. They found many hidden secrets unseen by the naked eyes. It is great that we can now see these artifacts of cultural heritage online. We should be grateful for the people who guarded and protected them as well.
