糖業，曾經是臺灣經濟的重要支柱。但在產業結構轉型的時代背景下，以往中南部的甘蔗田、五分仔車與糖廠，也逐漸在黃昏中凋零。為了找回糖業與土地的記憶，國立虎尾科技大學多媒體設計學系特別加入數位典藏與數位學習國家型科技計畫，將日治時期頂頂有名的虎尾糖廠歷史文獻、影像，進行數位化工作，不只留下糖業文化發展軌跡，也讓更多人透過網際網路認識虎尾。
