The Establishment of Xue Xue Institute
Xue Xue Institue was established in September, 2005 by husband and wife, P.S. Lin and Lilin Hsu, along with more than a hundred shareholders as a “Learning Platform” for Creativity and Culture. Xue Xue’s operation revolves around the four poles of Education, Research, Publishing and Consulting with a mission of conducting 5000 courses and publishing 300 research reports by 2006, aiming to accomplish the following objectives:
Meeting the needs of Taipei’s economic regeneration through Cultural Education Positioning Taipei as a Creative City through the formation of a Talent Hub In the 21st century, in order to achieve a firm place within the global market, countries are no longer vying with each other on an economic basis alone – various factors come into play as countries seek to differentiate themselves, calling upon the unique characteristics and advantages their respective cities have to offer. The “global city” must demonstrate superiority not only in geographical location, but also in cultural achievements.
With globalization and the flourish of many Asian manufacturing countries in recent years, Taiwan faces the threat of losing its standing within the global economy. Yet at this juncture, Taiwan is also presented with the opportunity to re-establish itself as a creative force within the global city networks – alongside such urban superpowers as New York, London, Milan, Barcelona and Tokyo. Boasting the single most liberal, open and accommodating democratic society in Asia, Taipei is more than qualified to become a center of creativity and design and a representative of the Eastern aesthetic, a place where “East meets West” and World trends merge.
Xue Xue Institute will serve as a platform for this vision of Taipei’s future, bringing together the most talented personalities in the fields of culture, creativity, lifestyle, philosophy, science and business to generate fresh and innovative learning experiences that ensure Xue Xue’s impact to be far-reaching and significant.
Highlighting the value of Culture and Aesthetics in the new Creative Economy In the past, “culture” and “economic development” were always isolated terms – although association with culture implied a certain higher social standing, culture itself was never attributed any economic value. In the 21st century, however, this is no longer the case, the two spheres now being inextricably linked due to the consumer’s demand for products bearing the added values of culture, lifestyle and sentiment. Thus it is important in today’s society to enhance cultural appreciation and to elevate the recognition of cultural emblems and the understanding of their uses. This is Xue Xue’s third mission.
Providing opportunities for Education and Self-enrichment Another byproduct of 21st century globalization and economic transformation is the emerging trend for the current generation to constantly seek change and advancement in the workplace. As single track education systems are no longer sufficient to instill the talent and versatility individuals need in order to keep up with new opportunities, continuing education and self-enrichment programs are becoming both popular and essential. What’s more, the most sought after degrees lie not solely in the management and technology fields anymore, but also in the creative and cultural fields of education – providing a niche for Xue Xue’s programs.
