隨著時代的演進，博物館經營型態亦隨之轉型，其價值與功能亦不斷擴張。故宮身為世界五大博物館之一，擁有高達67萬餘件書畫、器物、圖書文獻等精緻華夏文物。其肩負的社會期待與文化使命更為深重，亦更需積極作為，開創有別傳統的教育與展示方式。

為此特於華山創意文化園區設立「精彩數位故宮」，以本院豐厚典藏為底蘊，充分展現故宮數位典藏的成果，為博物館提供虛實互補之教育經驗。藉由人文與科技的融合展現古典的當代詮釋，跳脫傳統展示模式與展覽場域的限制，賦予觀眾更多的自主性與豐富的五感體驗，並充滿參觀展覽的互動樂趣。形塑典藏新活力，創造故宮新價值。
