Chinese learning is a worldwide trend. It can be predicted that there will be huge demand worldwide for Chinese teaching and enormous associated commercial opportunities in the foreseeable future. Private enterprises are actively preparing to engage into this field and the government of Taiwan also aims, by combining high-quality Chinese teaching resources and advanced information and communication technology, to encourage the digital e-learning industry to expand its overseas markets.

Before the Dutch East India Company (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, known as V.O.C.) set her first trade post and colony in Today’s Tainan in 1624, Taiwan, which has been known by Chinese, Japanese and Western adventurers and sailors, has already entered her historical age officially. But we must not forget that the people who didn’t invent their own writing language, had also developed a successful and stable local community before the coming of the outsiders. The situation of Taiwan prehistory is quite similar to the case of North America and Australia. The ancient life of the aborigine people shall be understood by the archaeological fieldwork and research. Through the hard work which are done by the archaeologists (maybe some degrees of assistance from cultural anthropologists), the door to the unknown age is opened for us now.

CyberIsland is a display platform established by the Taiwan Digital Archives Expansion Project. As a result of the effort of the bodies involved in the Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program, artifacts that are precious, are historically significant or have research value have been digitized. To increase the diversity of contents, from 2005 digital information has been collected from the public, including Taiwan’s mountain and river ecology, society, activities, architectural landscape and daily life digital information, the aim being to display Taiwan’s great vitality and splendor and encourage the public to engage in digitization work, together building a new digital society.

2008 e-Learning Industry Market Promotion– Participation in the Japan e-2008 e-Learning Industry Market Promotion– Participation in the Japan e-Learning World 2008 - Expo & Conference came to a Successful Close on August 2
Industrial Development and Promotion of Digital Archives and e-Learning Project / Taipei Computer Association/Tsai I-Ling
To promote the move into the international market of e-learning companies in Taiwan, leading companies jointly participated in a related international exhibition in late July-early August under this project. Taiwan’s leading e-learning companies participated in Japan’s e-Learning World 2008 - Expo & Conference during which a “Taiwan Hall” whole marketing method was used. Japan has one of the most mature e-learning markets in Asia and the e-Learning World 2008 - Expo & Conference is the biggest e-learning exhibition in Japan and Asia. Since 2006, when the Taiwan Hall method was used for the first time, outstanding achievements have been made in the event. This year, new highlights and more resources were brought into play to show the special features of Taiwan products, with the objective of cultivating the market and searching for opportunities to cooperate with Japanese companies.

To promote Hakka culture, create a diverse e-Learning environment and stimulate worldwide interest in Hakka culture e-Learning, the Council for Hakka Affairs began implementing the “Hakka e-Learning Center” Hakka Language and Culture Teaching Plan in 2004 (http://elearning.hakka.gov.tw).
