October 21, 2008 Digital Archives GISci Conference Welcomes Participants

Promoting the Applications of Geographic Information/Luo Chia-Wen

SUBJECT:

Digital archives preserve different forms of materials, ranging from old maps, aero photos, and satellite images to numerical maps. In Taiwan, a number of academic and governmental agencies are actively engaged in the establishment of digital archives. Beyond Taiwan, a number of bodies in Japan, the US and other parts of the world are also actively involved in the establishment of digital archives to preserve old Taiwan maps. One of the main tasks in the application and promotion of digital archives is to introduce geographical information into these digital archives, generating added values to the development of academic research as well as applications in analyzing and managing social issues.

In this symposium, related experts and scholars will be invited to engage in wide-ranging discussions on geographical information digital archives. Topics will include: Time/space information establishment and integration, information display and virtual reality, information supply and value added intellectual property and related applications.
