Introduction to the Hakka e-Learning Center
A special feature of Taiwan’s culture is its diversity. Taiwan Hakka culture is an indispensable part of the culture of “treasure island” Taiwan and the government attaches much importance to the Hakka ethnic group. Significant results have been achieved with respect to Hakka language renaissance, art and culture promotion and cultural park establishment.
With respect to language renaissance and increasing language ability, in addition to actively promoting Hakka language education and establishing a Hakka TV channel, the Council for Hakka Affairs holds Hakka language certification examinations, have been taken by over 31,000 people, and also actively nurtures talent and organizes academic activities, creating a nationwide wave of interest in learning Hakka. In addition, interactive on-line Hakka language certification courses have been established, allowing the public to learn Hakka language and about the culture in a relaxed way with no pressure and with no time or space restrictions, using Internet technology to introduce the elements of Hakka culture to people and promote the development of Hakka culture.
Hakka e-Learning Center combines traditional and modern, old and new, providing multi-dimensional interactive e-Learning courses. There are six main categories of courses, with 103 courses totaling 653.5 hours. In 2008, in addition to continuing to provide rich multi-dimensional e-Learning courses, the “Taiwan Hakka language vocabulary databank” has also been developed. This has “five tones” search and voice file downloading functions and on-line discussion forums, allowing people to offer their opinions on the vocabulary and post research results to bring together Hakka communities and establish a more complete Hakka language databank. In addition, the “Legend of Liudui” 「六堆風雲」 on-line game has been developed, using a fun learning method to attract young people and achieve the objective of promoting Hakka culture.
