The Deputy Program Director of the Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program (TELDAP), Academician Dr. Der-Tsai Lee and his six-member team visited the Getty Research Institute (GRI) to explore possibilities of collaboration between the two institutions.

      During their visit at the GRI from July 13-18, both parties discussed the development of a Chinese version of the Getty’s Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT), focusing on issues of strategy, methodology, technology, and licensing.

      Both parties reached an agreement in principle on the following:

(1)  the Getty Research Institute and the Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program agree to pursue future collaboration plans, including the development of Chinese version of the Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT);

(2) the Getty Research Institute agreed to provide the latest version of the Art &Architecture Thesaurus (AAT) data to the Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program for preliminary testing; and

(3)  the Getty Research Institute agrees to have the Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program translate related GRI publications, including “Introduction to Metadata,” “Introduction to Imaging,” and “Introduction to Controlled Vocabularies,” into Chinese.

      The Getty Research Institute takes the collaboration as the first step to include more Asian-language content in the Getty’s Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT). Academician Der-Tsai Lee was invited by the GRI to deliver a lecture on “The Development and Future of the Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program” on July 17, 2008 at the Getty Research Institute.
